Klagenfurt is the 6th largest city in Austria. It is located in the southern part of the country near the border of Slovenia. It has a long history, with its first mention in a 12th century document. In 1514 the city was almost completely destroyed by a fire. Before that it survived the Peasants’ Wars, Turkish attacks and earthquakes. In the early 20th century the city was occupied by Slovenes even though by that time the culture in the city was becoming more Austrian.
