Curitiba means 'Pine Nut Land’ and it is found in the state of Paraná. Curitiba also gives its name to the surrounding Metropolitan area of twenty six municipalities. Curitiba lies around 65 miles to the west of Paranguá, a sea port, and it is served by two airports, the Afonso Pena International Airport and also the Bacacheri Airport.
The city was founded due to its position in the 1700s between country used for cattle breeding and marketplaces where produce and livestock were sold. Over the years there have been a number of influences from different nationalities and these are reflected in the mixture of styles to be found around the city. These include the Italian Woods, Japan Square and a German Church.
