Agrigento is a very interesting site archaeologically. In ancient times, the huge city of Akragas dominated this location and much of the surrounding area as well, which is now countryside. Although much of the old city has not been excavated yet the areas to the south of the city that have been excavated have yielded some highly impressive examples of Greek temples from the 6th century BC. The seven temples have now been listed as a World Heritage Site. The two best preserved temples are the Temples of Juno and Concordia.
