The small Indian Ocean island of Mauritius only has one international airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. It is often abbreviated to SSR International Airport. It is near the town of Plaisance in the south eastern part of the country. As such, it is sometimes referred to as Plaisance Airport.

SSR International Airport is also the base of Air Mauritius. To drive to the capital city of Port Louis from the airport takes approximately 45 minutes, and there are good road links connecting the two places. The airport was named after the person who brought Mauritius to independence in 1968. The airport building is fairly small and is just one storey high. Nevertheless, there are good facilities for travellers, including a handicraft shop, post office, duty free shop, restaurants, a book store, banks, waiting areas and lounges.
