Oranjemund is a small town that lies in the far south west of Namibia. It sits on the northern bank of the Orange River and was established due to the diamond industry. It was a closed town until 2012 with only employees and their relatives being permitted to enter the town. Although the town is now open, non-residents still need a permit in order to enter, but once they do they have access to luxurious facilities, great restaurants and high quality accommodation. Oranjemund is surrounded by the Sperrgebiet National Park and so jackals, ostrich and Oryx can often be seen wandering around the town. For more extensive exploration of the National Park you will need car rental, which can be supplied by VIP Cars, so you can head out and search for some of the diverse wildlife that inhabits the land. The more adventurous of you can hire a 4x4 and go and explore the off road tracks.
