Lagos is a city and municipality in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Located at the mouth of the Bensafrim River facing the Atlantic Ocean, Lagos is a popular tourist destination, renowned for its varied attractions such as sandy beaches, vibrant nightlife, summer parties and historical landmarks. This city was also the main historical center during Portugal's Age of Discovery.
Along with the beaches and pulsating nightlife, there are many attractions for travelers to see in Lagos. These include the obelisk type Menhir of Cabeço do Rochedo, dating back to the neolithic ages, the Fort of Ponta de Badiera, the Lighthouse of Ponta da Piedade, the Slave Market/Customs houses of Lagos and the Tower of Atalaia. The prominent religious landmarks here are the Church of St Antonio, and the Church of São Sebastião.
