Leiria is a city and municipality of the Centro region in Portugal. A coastal city, Leiria is located in-between and nearly about the same distance from the cities of Porto and Lisbon. This city is known as the home town of many famous Portuguese poets and is also popular for hosting cultural events. This city also has a small airfield which is used for sports and recreation purposes.
Leiria has a few attractions of note for travelers to visit in it. The Leiria Castle is an important historical landmark here located at the highest point in the city. Within the castle walls, a royal palace with Gothic galleries was built in the late 15th century. Igreja de São Pedro and the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Pena are two prominent churches located here. The beaches of Leiria are also popular and one also can enjoy outdoor activities such as camping here.
