Twinned with Kemi in Finland, Newtownards is a large town in the Northern Ireland area of County Down. It is situated at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough. It is a short distance from the capital of Belfast. The local name for the town is Ards. Newtownards is overlooked by the soaring Scrabo Tower. The tower was set up as a memorial to Charles Stewart, the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, because of his care and concern for his tenants during the historic potato famine.
